Stagshaw Gallery: Locomotives Description: For many years Stagshaw No1 was used for hauling coal trains from the colliery yard to the river Tyne. After the decline and closure of the North East coal industry the line was restored by volunteers and rune today with passenger trains at the weekends. Stagshaw No 1 has a golden stag in its chimney, that represents the Stagshaw family who owned and managed coal mines in the Durham area for over a century.
