Spitfire T E 566 R A F Leeming Gallery: Aircraft Description: Spitfire LF MK IX TE566 was built at Castle Bromwich in 1945 and flew with 312 Squadron during the latter stages of WW 2 and was presented to the Czech Air Force in late 1945. It was later sold to the Israeli Air Force in 1949, being salvaged from that country in !976. It was restored to flying condition and flew from Audley End in Essex in 1992. The aircraft was sold and moved to South Africa after being purchased by Andrew Torr in 1998. In January 2001 it was sold to Mike Snoyman. April 25th TE566 crashed killing the pilot and owner Mike Snoyman,the aircraft being a complete right off. The aircraft is seen here at R A F Leeming in the 1990s.
